MET12, Telenet & ICN Marshalltown Educational Television (MET12)
MET 12 can be seen by MediaCom cable subscribers in Marshalltown, Green Mountain and LeGrand.
Bet you didn’t know all this about YOUR local cable channel...
- MET 12 reaches MediaCom cable subscribers.
- MET 12 programming includes locally filmed shows that air 5-10 hours a day, 7 days a week, with Annenberg/ CPB programming to supplement our local programs, as well as a bulletin board and music during other hours.
- Currently MET 12 films City Council meetings and Marshalltown School Board of Education meetings, produces its own show called “Discover Marshalltown,” and films local events going on in the school and the community at large.
- MET 12 is governed by a 9-member board of volunteers representing city government, the media, education, and the community at large.
- The channel’s facilities are housed at Iowa Valley Continuing Education on the campus of Marshalltown Community College.
- Facilities include a 30’ x 40’ TV studio (room 616) equipped with 2 studio cameras, a switcher, and post-production editing equipment, and a control room (804) with satellite downlink, cable TV origination, video duplication and digital editing equipment, a radio lab, closed-circuit TV capability to distribute live telecast throughout campus, and 24-hour bulletin board equipment.
- Students in MCC’s Broadcast Technology curriculum assist with local programming as part of their training. Some students are among the camera operators trained and designated for MET 12 filming projects.
- MET 12’s predecessor, Iowa Valley Television (IVTV) operated for 17 years under the auspices of IVCE and the City of Marshalltown. For most of those years, IVTV shared its broadcast day with C-Span. Since November, 2000, total programming control has been in the hands of Iowa Valley and the Cable TV Advisory Committee.
- Programming includes informational interviews pertaining to local topics, favorite classic movies, locally-produced videos, coverage of local events (city council meetings, school board meetings, garden club meetings, MFL games and much more) and educational programming originating from Iowa Valley Continuing Education and Marshalltown Community College.

All Iowa community colleges, state universities, and numerous other organizations are connected to a statewide fiber optic telecommunication system known as the Iowa Communications Network (ICN). With high-tech classrooms and equipment, the system provides two-way audio and video communication between multiple sites. ICN brings "distance education" to local residents, and IVCE is proud to have been a leader in providing the technological support and funding sources to put the system in this District. For more information about ICN, contact Julie Thomas, Assistant Dean of Telecommunications, at 641-844-5621 or 1-800-284-4823, or e-mail Julie.Thomas@iavalley.edu.
