Iowa Valley collective bargaining initial proposals unveiled
Members of the Iowa Valley Community College District Education Association (IVCCEA), representing the faculty members of Ellsworth Community College, Marshalltown Community College and Iowa Valley Grinnell, presented their initial collective bargaining position to representatives of the IVCCD Board of Directors’ negotiating team on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The IVCCEA proposes a 6.5 percent increase in faculty gross wages for 2014-2015. Their proposal also requests changing the placement of faculty members who have earned terminal degrees in their academic field of instruction to the Ph.D. lane of the salary schedule; reducing the number of years between salary step advancements; adding an additional step to the top of the salary matrix; and increasing the number of higher education credits and the reimbursement for those credits for faculty who are pursuing an advanced degree.
Members of the Iowa Valley Community College District administration, representing the IVCCD Board of Directors in contract negotiations, presented their opening position in a meeting immediately following the IVCCEA presentation.
The Board representatives propose an opening gross wage increase of 2 percent to the 2013-14 base. Their proposal also requests increasing health insurance options offered to new faculty employees; addressing quality certification and compensation for faculty covered by the bargaining unit who teach internet courses; and revising the method of compensation for faculty members who agree to perform extra duty assignments for sponsorships of activities and clubs.
All subsequent negotiation meetings between the IVCCD Board representatives and the IVCCEA faculty association will be held in closed session.
