IVCCD Board presents initial collective bargaining position
Members of the Iowa Valley Community College District administration, representing the IVCCD Board of Directors in contract negotiations with faculty members of the Iowa Valley Community College Education Association (Ellsworth Community College, Marshalltown Community College and Iowa Valley Grinnell), presented their opening position in response to the faculty association’s initial collective bargaining proposal on Wednesday afternoon, March 27.
In response to the faculty association’s request for an added definition of credit load hour, the Board representatives indicated that costing information would be shared and considered as part of the total package settlement.
The Board representatives offered an opening salary increase of the faculty’s current supplemental pay added to the 2012-13 base plus step increases as identified in the master agreement.
The Board representatives declined the faculty’s request to reduce the number of years between salary step advancements after the 15th step. The Board representatives proposed to reimburse for the cost of coursework for faculty pursuing an advanced degree at the current number of six higher education credits per year and increase the reimbursement from $475 per credit to up to $550 per credit. In addition, Board representatives offered language changes related to fiber optics instruction and internet instruction. Sub-committees studying several master agreement issues during the past year will report findings and provide recommendations through the bargaining process.
All subsequent negotiation meetings between the IVCCD Board representatives and the IVCCEA faculty association will be held in closed session.
