IVCCD presents outstanding service and longevity awards
Eight individuals received Outstanding Service Awards and 20 employees were recognized for their years of service at the annual Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) staff in-service day earlier this week. The employees represent all units of IVCCD, including Ellsworth Community College (ECC), Marshalltown Community College (MCC), Iowa Valley Continuing Education (IVCE), Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell (IVG), and District Administration.
IVCCD Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree presented the Outstanding Service Awards as follows:
Ambassador of the Year Award to Bob Hiatt of Alliant Energy for his efforts as a training partner in the Utility Technician program, which has now served 88 participants with an employment placement rate of more than 90 percent.
Education Excellence Award to Megan Gogerty, ECC Equine Faculty, for her dedication to expanding ECC’s equine programs and helping students succeed at the highest levels.
Education Excellence Award to Jack Aker, MCC Industrial Maintenance Technology Faculty, for so successfully preparing students for the workplace that one local employer told him he’d “hire all the graduates Aker can produce.”
Leadership & Communication Award to Kathy Pink, IVCCD Chief Financial Officer, for the long hours she puts in that have resulted in an integrity and accountability level that are second to none.
Partnerships Award to Jeannine Loros, Orpheum Theater Center, Charter President of the Orpheum Theater Guild, for recruiting volunteers, providing informative tours, and establishing the Guild.
Recognition & Success Award to O.J. Payne, ECC Director of Housing, for going above and beyond in overseeing the hundreds of ECC students who live on-campus and guiding them through various life experiences.
Quality Award to Brenda Kremer, IVG Student Services Receptionist, who is credited with transforming the campus with her strong work ethic, positive attitude, and improvements of various work processes.
Chancellor’s Award to Dr. Lisa Breja, IVCCD Institutional Researcher, for working quietly behind the scenes to play a key role in the District being recognized as a Top Workplace for the third year in a row and in the District’s recognition as an Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence tier 3 leadership organization. Dr. Breja was also credited with being instrumental in the District’s strategic planning process and in receiving a positive accreditation feedback report with no compliance issues cited.
Longevity awards were presented for years of service to the District. Honorees included the following:
40-Year Award – Elaine Peterson, MCC Dental Assisting Faculty.
35-Year Award – Michael (Mac) McDonald, ECC Social Science Faculty.
25-Year Award – Cindy Smith, IVCE Accounting Clerk.
15-Year Awards – Kevin Cartier, MCC Computer/Business Faculty; April Graveman, ECC/MCC Biology/Health Sciences Faculty; Fonda Hopp, MCC Nursing Faculty; Dan Key, MCC Senior Student Success Specialist; Anne Sherve-Ose, ECC Music Faculty.
10-Year Awards – Laura Armstrong, IVG English Faculty; Dr. Lisa Breja, IVCCD Institutional Researcher; Ann Ersland, ECC Nursing Faculty; Martha Schwandt, MCC Learning Services Specialist.
5-Year Awards – Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor; Jennifer Fuchs, IVCE Director of WIA & Promise Jobs; Linda Hanson, ECC/MCC Associate Dean of Health Occupations; Joan Jaimes, MCC MEP Outreach Counselor; Jonathan Nunez, IVCE Assessment/Retention Specialist; Colleen Springer, IVCCD Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services; Jennifer Wilson, IVCE Director of Adult Literacy Programs; Jim Wilson, IVCCD Chief Information Officer.
The IVCCD mission statement affirms that the institution is committed to providing quality learning experiences, ensuring student success, responding to diverse community needs, and building community partnerships. It is the staff that fulfills this mission through their daily efforts and dedication. The individuals honored for outstanding service and the employees celebrating an employment anniversary milestone were honored and thanked for their efforts on behalf of Iowa Valley and its students.
