The employees represent all units of IVCCD, including Ellsworth Community College (ECC), Marshalltown Community College (MCC), Iowa Valley Continuing Education (IVCE), Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell (IVG), and District Administration.
IVCCD Chancellor Dr. Chris Duree presented the Outstanding Service Awards as follows:
Ambassador of the Year Award to Matt & Paula Pisney and Matthew & Satomi Hoven for their work with the Fish at Pish group that meets regularly in their Marshalltown homes to provide food, fun and fellowship for international students attending Marshalltown Community College. The nomination read, in part, “In addition to their bi-weekly events, the Fish group has partnered with MCC to co-host the annual international student Thanksgiving dinner, they have provided transportation to/from the airport, as well as other support services throughout the year. Fish at Pish is one of the many reasons MCC’s international students say their experience in Marshalltown was so memorable.”
Education Excellence Award to Nancy Adams, MCC Psychology Faculty, for her innovative and engaging instruction in the classroom and her ongoing support of the MCC Student Assistance Program, the MCC Proactive Intervention Team (PIT Crew), and the Orpheum Theater Center. The nomination read, in part, “In her day-to-day work, Nancy is considered to be one of MCC’s most engaging instructors in the classroom. She has been observed utilizing resources, community speakers, and various techniques to prepare students for global citizenship. She works hard at providing her students with exciting presentations of the current issues in her field. Her nominees write that they ‘can't imagine a more stimulating classroom in the college. Our students are lucky to have her.’”
Leadership & Communication Award to Greg Hodak, ECC Economics Faculty, for his leadership going “above and beyond” as President of the Iowa Valley Community College Education Association (IVCCEA) to promote the District and strengthen relationships. The nomination read, in part, “Greg organized several events on our ECC campus which brought the community and ECC employees together for fun and fellowship. He demonstrated open, honest, transparent communication and leadership in working with the ECC administration and the IVCCD leadership team, sharing ideas for team-building, unity, and achievement of common goals throughout the academic year. He also chairs the Student Conduct Committee, a role in which he has spent a significant amount of time and dedication. Students, faculty, and administration recognize his ability to handle difficult situations with fairness, honesty and integrity.”
Recognition & Success Award to Antonio Marquez, MCC Plant Services, for his commitment to excellent customer service in working with staff, students and college guests. The nomination read, in part, “Antonio, without even thinking whether or not he is in alignment with the District’s vision, mission and core values, is just being himself; a genuine, gracious individual who makes both staff and students’ lives a little more pleasant! When you walk down the hall and are immediately greeted by him with a warm smile and hearty greeting, he is one of those who can immediately change your entire perspective of the day to the positive. In his role as a plant services worker, he unquestionably is contributing to the success of our students, faculty, staff and college.”
Quality Award to the IVCCD Plant Services Department, which works hard on a daily basis, in a variety of often challenging circumstances, to showcase the quality of Iowa Valley’s college facilities. The nomination read, in part, “The team has worked very hard at not only setting goals but exceeding their own expectations to improve quality on many levels, cost reduction of materials and equipment, and time management for work orders and special projects and set-ups. Our campus grounds and the appearance of our buildings have greatly improved. Not only does the team work hard on a daily basis in all elements and situations, they do it with good attitudes. It doesn't matter what member of the team you encounter, they are pleasant. It is the teamwork of the entire Plant Service Department that showcases the continuous quality improvement to the District’s facilities.”
Chancellor’s Award to Byron Steiber, ECC Plant Services Supervisor, for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty in all circumstances. The nomination read, in part, “Whether it be providing in-depth information and documentation we have needed for litigation with attorneys, orchestrating a rapid response to a water line break that floods a building, creatively thinking through and making recommendations for HVAC replacement, providing the oversight of construction and remodeling projects with never-ending vigilance … in the past year, Byron has done it all and always with a positive attitude, excellent communication, and never without the well-being of the college, faculty, staff and students as his top priority.”
