IVCCD Board hears update on Orpheum Theater Center strategic planning process
The IVCCD Board of Directors heard an update on the Orpheum Theater Center’s Strategic Planning when it met last week. Dr. Tom Westbrook from Drake University gave a 15-minute presentation to the Board on Wednesday that touched on the Orpheum’s mission, its vision, and goals going forward.
“The Orpheum is worth fighting for,” says Dr. Westbrook, who was appointed in May to spearhead strategic planning for the Orpheum Theater Center. Jacque Goodman, Chancellor of Continuing Education and Training, and Lindsey Van Wyk, Orpheum Theater Center Event Coordinator, were also present at the meeting.
Dr. Westbrook outlined a set of goals for the Orpheum; the first was to secure ongoing revenue sources and the second, to create community ties and support. A third goal, titled ‘other’ included a number of objectives, one being the use of the Orpheum as an education venue. He noted that securing a 501(c)(3) designation along with continuous exploration of grant opportunities would be vital to the success of the Orpheum.
Other notes from the presentation included objectives such as creating a marketing strategy, forming a culturally diverse community advisory board, and rebooting the Friends of the Orpheum and Orpheum Theater Guild. The presenter finished by saying the next step will be prioritizing these initiatives and putting them into action.
In other matters, the Board: approved modifications to the Promise Jobs master agreement and Iowa Workforce Development to provide services FY15; approved an amendment to the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Region 6 Master Agreement; approved Accelerated Career Education (ACE) training program agreement with Ashing Machine and Tool Company of Grinnell; approved athletics use agreement with Marshalltown Community School District for use of MCC’s Student Activity Center and Babe Harder Gymnasium for the 2014-15 academic year due to renovation of the MHS Roundhouse; approved an athletic trainer services agreement between MCC and McFarland Clinic.
Two donations were accepted by the IVCCD Board: Doug Turnbull/Turnbull Manufacturing donated gun parts to the Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell Gunsmith Technology program; Dr. Robert L. Moore and Linda A. Moore donated $1,000 to the Jean Seberg International Film Festival.
The next regular meeting of the IVCCD Board of Directors will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 4 pm in Iowa Falls.
