Career Academy program expansions
IVCCD currently offers several Career Academy programs for area high school students. The participating high school juniors and seniors can take career and technical courses through Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College or Iowa Valley Grinnell and get both high school and MCC/ECC credit. Current Career Academies being offered include the following:
- At Ellsworth Community College – Agriculture/Swine Management, Biotechnology, Business & Information Technology, Construction, and Health Occupations.
- At Marshalltown Community College – Broadcast Technology, Computer Networking, Construction, Diversified & Entrepreneurial Agriculture, Early Childhood Education, Health Occupations, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Design, Retail Management, and Tool & Die.
- At Iowa Valley Grinnell – Ag Business, Health Occupations, Industrial Maintenance, Business Administration, and Broadcast Technology.
In the interest of meeting new and changing needs of area high schools and their students, IVCCD has committed $250,000 of its bond issue funds to the development of additional Career Academy programs or enhancing existing programs. The money will be used primarily for whatever technical equipment is necessary to teach the programs selected. The specific programs to be developed will be determined in collaboration with area high school administrators and faculty members.
