IVCCD Bond Issue Update

ECC Agriculture & Renewable Energy Center

Architectural agreements were signed in January 2007 for the design of the ECC Agriculture & Renewable Energy Center. Plans are now being developed, and the building site has been purchased. This new state-of-the-art facility will be located south of Iowa Falls on Highway 65, just south of the existing Hog Slat operation. It is anticipated that construction will begin later in 2007, with completion expected in 2008.

IVCCD anticipates spending $10 million in bond funds for the ECC Agriculture & Renewable Energy Center and the ECC Activity Center combined. A separate capital campaign is being conducted to raise an additional $5 million to cover the remainder of the construction and equipment costs for both projects and an additional $1 million for scholarships.

The ECC Agriculture & Renewable Energy Center will include a biotechnology classroom and laboratories (including two biotechnology incubator labs), agriculture classrooms, a large animal lab, an indoor arena, a computer lab, and a commons area. ECC’s equine program will also be relocated to this site.

According to ECC Provost Mollie Teckenburg, the project is being timed so that the District can qualify to apply for federal and state grant funding to support some of the costs of the project.
