ECC Student Activity Center addition The construction contract has been awarded to Larson Construction of Independence, IA, in the amount of $5.921 million for the ECC Student Activity Center addition to the physical education complex on the Ellsworth Community College campus. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on Tuesday, Oct. 9. IVCCD anticipates spending $10 million in bond funds for the ECC Agriculture & Renewable Energy Center and the ECC Community Life Center combined. A separate capital campaign is being conducted to raise an additional $6 million to cover the remainder of the construction and equipment costs for both projects. The ECC Student Activity Center has been endorsed by the Iowa Falls strategic planning committee and will benefit ECC students and community members alike. It’s expected to include meeting and event areas, concessions, and two basketball courts that can be converted to volleyball or tennis courts. It will also include an indoor walking/running track, wellness facility, locker rooms, and much-needed classrooms, including an Athletic Training program classroom and computer lab space. The facility will include a student lounge, an office and meeting room for the ECC Student Senate, and a faculty and Student Services office.
