ECC’s Malcolm Canada is 3rd Team All American
Ellsworth Community College men’s basketball player Malcolm Canada of Austin, TX, has been named a 3rd Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Canada, a 6’3” sophomore point guard, is majoring in Education at Ellsworth.
For the season, Canada averaged 20.2 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, 5.2 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game, all of which were team highs. He also led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in assists, points scored, field goals, and free throws made, as well as ranking 8th in both rebounds and steals.
Nationally, Canada ended the season ranked 5th in free throws made, 12th for points scored, and 17th for assists.
“Malcolm is an excellent ball player, but someday he will be an even better teacher,” says ECC Panther Head Coach Troy Muilenburg. “He is a natural leader, which he demonstrated this year by his performance in the classroom and on the floor. As point guard it was his leadership that led us to a 18-13 record, a third place finish in the league, as well a spot in the regional championship game. Really, as impressive as his numbers were this year, I was even more impressed with his leadership on and off the floor, and how he would step up for us in the big games.”
