ECC seeks host families for two YFU students
Ellsworth Community College will host two new female Youth for Understanding (YFU) international exchange students for the 2013-14 academic year. Jeongeun, 22, from South Korea, and Claudia, 18, from Switzerland, are both are in need of host families in the Iowa Falls area.
Jeongeun has studied English for seven years and is interested in studying journalism, communications, and marketing/public relations. She comes from a close-knit family that enjoys spending time together seeing movies, going to coffee shops and attending church each week. She says she’s excited to immerse herself into life as an American college student … she is considered by her teachers and peers to be an exceptional student and a hard worker. Jeongeun’s interests outside the classroom include photography, computers, movies and writing. She will attend ECC during the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters.
Claudia has studied French for eight years and English for five years. Her academic interests include science, languages, psychology and sociology. She loves learning about new cultures and is ready for new experiences (and improving her English skills) in Iowa. Claudia is described by friends as open-minded, very kind, and helpful. In her spare time she enjoys performing in the arts (musicals, choral groups), photography, yoga and dancing. She will attend ECC during the fall 2013 semester only.
Interested families are being sought to host Jeongeun or Claudia. Host families provide a safe and loving home environment including a bed, a place to study and food for three meals a day. Host families receive $200 per month for hosting a YFU student. YFU students arrive with their own spending money and health insurance, and if they choose to drive, they purchase their own vehicle and auto insurance.
By hosting a YFU student, families can broaden their perspective of the world, while also sharing interests, love and culture with an exchange son or daughter. Probably the most treasured gift an exchange student can bring your family is a lasting friendship and memories that will last a lifetime.
If you or someone you know is interested in hosting one of these students for the 2013-2014 academic year, or if you would like to learn more about a student and the YFU host family experience, please contact Tina Ruch-Wesselmann, ECC YFU Campus Coordinator, at 641-648-8524 or email Tina.Wesselmann@iavalley.edu .
