ECC Band seeks community participation
Perhaps Paul Simon said it best: “Music is forever; music should grow and mature with you, following you right on up until you die.”
Community members of all ages and skill levels who play instruments of all kinds are invited to participate in what’s sure to be the biggest and best Ellsworth Community College Band in recent memory. Band members are asked to commit to weekly practices on Tuesday nights, from 6 to 8 pm, starting Aug. 19 through Dec. 6.
“We’ve always had a few community members in the ECC Band, as well as our college students, of course,” explains ECC Band Director Anne Sherve-Ose. “We’ve set a lofty but attainable goal of recruiting at least 10 community musicians and 12-15 students this year, which would give us the largest ECC Band in decades!”
Sherve-Ose says band members may choose to perform with the Pep Band at home Panther athletic events, and will play at the annual Christmas Cabaret dinner concert in December. In exchange for sharing their time and talents, band members receive a free band t-shirt, free pizza, and admission to home ECC football, volleyball and basketball games at which they’re playing.
“I want to assure community members that we have fun in practices and at our performances,” says Sherve-Ose. “There’s no such thing as not good enough … we welcome musicians who are nearly professionals and those who haven’t played for decades. We know how to work together, and it’s an enjoyable experience for everyone. I just ask that those who participate make a sincere commitment to be at as many practices and performances as possible during the semester.”
