ECC celebrates Social Concerns Day
Ellsworth Community College students participated in a Red Cross Blood Drive, experienced the Driving While Texting simulation vehicle, and learned about a variety of Iowa Falls and Hardin County agencies and services during the 2013 Social Concerns Day held Sept 12 in the Dale Howard Activity Center.
Social Concerns Day is an annual ECC event designed to encourage engagement and involvement in the community and to raise awareness about agencies, services and issues that impact individuals and communities. The goals are simply to promote healthy lifestyles, raise awareness of social issues, and share opportunities for student volunteerism.
ECC students, staff members and community members volunteered to donate blood during the Red Cross Blood Drive, held in conjunction with ECC Social Concerns Day.
The texting and driving simulator was experienced by many students. Many crashed before completing the exercise.
Students visited several information booths during Social Concerns Day, including this one, where they learned about the new Panther Service Project program. Panther Service Projects promote volunteerism and community service.
