At Ellsworth Community College, the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) strives to provide an academic support system for all students who need help reaching their goals. Individual and group study/tutoring areas and resource materials are available in a supportive atmosphere, as well as a computer lab. The ACE is located in the lower level of Kruse Main Hall on the ECC campus.
This summer, the ACE is open Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 4:30 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 1 pm. The ACE will be closed May 14-24 and July 29 to Aug. 9. Tutors will be in the ACE this summer ... please check posted hours for availability.
Come once or come often! Drop-In Homework Labs are free and open to all students, staffed by students who have taken the classes and know how to help you with assignments/studying. Please see current Drop-In Homework Lab schedule in the ACE, sent out to student e-mail and posted on bulletin boards around campus.
Peer Tutoring provides free assistance for students enrolled in specific ECC courses. Tutors are students who have successfully completed the course. Normal tutoring includes two 50-minute sessions per week, arranged one-on-one during normal ACE hours. Students are encouraged to seek assistance as soon as they experience difficulty in a course, as it may take up to two weeks to arrange a tutoring schedule. To be assigned a peer tutor, students should contact a faculty member or visit Glennda Metzen in Kruse Main. Students interested in becoming a tutor should contact the course instructor and complete a tutor application form in the ACE.
The Writing Center provides students with one-on-one assistance with writing assignments for all classes. Students can get help at any stage of the writing process. Drop-in visits are welcome. To schedule an appointment, fill out the online form with your availability, visit the ACE, or phone 641-648-8582 or toll-free 1-800-322-9235, Ext. 8582, or e-mail ECCWritingCenter@iavalley.edu.
Homework Help Labs are available during select hours to assist students (on a drop-in basis) with coursework. No appointment is necessary. Lab sessions include a broad range of courses each semester. See the schedule sent to student e-mail each semester and posted in ACE, or phone Ext. 8582 for more information.
