KCCI TV8 features "swugglers" at Panther Pride triathlon
The Panther Pride Triathlon began as a way to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the Dale Howard Family Activity Center at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, I
A. Showcasing our diverse countryside and amazing community members (along with some spirited athletes), the first triathlon c
ame to fruition. We wanted to create an event that would involve the entire community, promote wellness, be fun and well organized, utilize our excellent facilities, and serve athletes as well.
The dream became a reality back in November 2009 when we found Iowa Falls State Bank to sponsor the event. The first annual Panther Pride Triathlon in 2010 was a huge success! Our goal was to have around 125 athletes participate in the event, and we ended up with 94.
We are now planning the 2012 Panther Pride Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning at 9 am. The event will consist of an INDOOR 300 yard swim, an OUTDOOR 15 mile bike ride (helmets required), and an OUTDOOR 5K run. The swim and transition area will be outside, weather permitting; otherwise it will be held in the Dale Howard Family Activity Center. You can compete as an individual or as a member of a relay team. All participants will receive a spectacular Panther Pride t-shirt. Participants and their families are also invited to the "best post-party ever"!
New USA Triathlon Sanction
For the first time (2012), the Panther Pride Triathlon is now a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event. What does this mean for you? USAT is the national governing body for the sport of triathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and excess medical insurance coverage, and the event has met the standard of organization required. USAT provides rules, guidance, and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races. For more information on USA Triathlon visit http://www.usatriathlon.org.
With our continued commitment to focus on community, wellness, excellence and fun, this friendly and well-organized event will be sure to please – you won't want to miss it!
Be a part of the second Panther Pride Triathlon … sign up as an athlete, volunteer, donate, or cheer from your front porch. The Panther Pride Triathlon of Iowa Falls, IA, will be here before you know it!
2012 Race Information
The 3rd annual Panther Pride Triathlon in Iowa Falls, IA, will begin at 9 am on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. The event will consist of an indoor 300 yard swim, 15 mile bike ride and 5K run. This Triathlon boasts an INDOOR swim, which new triathletes are sure to appreciate.
The 300 yard swim will be held in the DHFAC Pool, with the time trial start beginning at 9 am. The DHFAC pool is a 6-lane pool filled with warm clean water. It is supervised by lifeguards and guaranteed to be free from the “things lurking beneath” most open water swims. Swimmers will share a single start point and will begin their swim in standard intervals. Each participant will swim up and back in each lane, working their way across the pool in serpentine fashion. Swimmers swim a total of 300 yards and exit at a single exit point.
The 15 mile bike ride will be a loop course. The course gently rolls through the Iowa River Valley and then out into Midwest's finest and friendliest farm country. Here's a link to a map of the bike course: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/28344458.
The 5K run will be on a hard surfaced trail. The course will take you over a suspension bridge and along the Iowa River and friendly residential areas in Iowa Falls. There will be two aid stations on the course. Here's a link to a map of the running course: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/28344866.
Registration
The event is limited to the first 300 entrants. The cost is $35 for individuals and $90 for relay teams (ActiveAdvantage members save $10 with online reservations; see the link below for details). No refunds will be given.
Relay Teams: Relay teams may consist of two or three people of any age. Teams in the women's division must have only female team members and teams in the men’s division must have only males. A co-ed team may have any combination of men and women.
