Iowa Valley Grinnell students volunteer time for Care Bags Foundation
Several members of Iowa Valley Grinnell’s Beta Sigma Chi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society took time out of their day Friday for a great cause. The PTK members went to the Care Bags Foundation headquarters in Newton to deliver bags & blankets for children in need.
“I want to thank them all so much for sewing beautiful bags, making cozy tie blankets and donating neat items to Care Bags Foundation,” says Annie (Wignall) Foskett, Director of Care Bags Foundation. The foundation has no paid staff and is run entirely by volunteers. “Their kindness and generosity will help bring smiles and comfort to deserving kids in need and is very much appreciated by us.”
Phi Theta Kappa members held a fundraising event over spring break in March to purchase personal care items that went into the care bags. Bags and fleece blankets were created on campus throughout the year, with the entire student body welcome to participate.
Annie founded Care Bags Foundation in January of 2000 when she was 11 years old. She got the idea to start this project and provide fabric bags filled with new, essential and age-appropriate items to deserving kids after she learned there were lots of children in crisis situations who have to leave their homes with very few of their own belongings.
