Iowa Valley Grinnell announces Gunsmith Tech ‘Master Craftsman Series’
Iowa Valley Community College Grinnell is pleased to announce the inaugural class of its “Master Craftsman Series,” through its Gunsmith Technology program.
This class on stock repair and stock finishing techniques is set for August 4 – 8, and will feature Dennis Earl Smith, one of the finest craftsmen in the world of firearms. The course is open to anyone interested in the crafting of fine firearms.
Students will be expected to provide their own firearms for projects for the class. Fees for each class are $1,000 per person. Students will be responsible for their own meals and lodging. The 2014 classes are co-sponsored by Brownells, Inc. and The American Custom Gunmakers Guild.
Dennis is a long time member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild (ACGG), and highly respected as an expert in the trade. He owns The Stock Doctor, located in Tygh Valley, OR. He has been in business for 24 years repairing, refinishing, restoring, and building Custom gunstocks.
During his 32-year journey, Dennis has experience as the custom shop supervisor for Fajen Inc., a stocker for 200-year-old London Gunmaker with an Agency in the USA, stock maker for Shooters Emporium Inc. of Portland Oregon, and Lead Finisher/Woodshop Mgr. for Kimber of Oregon. This wide experience gives Dennis Earl Smith a good foundation from which to pass on his knowledge to others.
