Basic Self-Defense 1 class
GRINNELL - Iowa Valley Continuing Education has partnered with Adaptive Combat Training to offer Basic Self Defense 1 class. This introductory hands-on class will teach you the necessary skills to survive stressful, dangerous, and violent situations regardless of your age, size or previous experience. The expert instructors use a practical hands-on approach to real-life situations. You will be instructed in effective and easy to learn methods to deter an attacker. You will practice many techniques during the class. This course is designed for women, men, and responsible teenagers.
There are two instructors for Basic Self-Defense 1 and together they have 35 years combined Martial Arts Study, 29 combined years in law enforcement, 13 years combined S.W.A.T. Team experience plus additional training and teaching experience in specialty law enforcement areas. Their expertise and real life experience will make this a very valuable class for everyone attending.
Did you know that according to the National Institute of Justice, 5 out of 6 people in the United States will become victims of attempted or completed violent crimes during their lifetime? About half will be victimized twice. Are you prepared to defend yourself or your loved ones? Basic Self Defense 1 is a way to educate yourself and practice hands-on skills that will be one of the tools you can utilize to deter an attacker.
The Basic Self-Defense 1 class will meet on Tuesday Sept. 18 and continue on Thursday Sept. 20 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Grinnell at the Drake Community Library, 930 Park St, in the Community Room. Cost of the course is $39 and the course number is PSD 3100-002. Registrations are now being taken at Iowa Valley Continuing Education by calling IVCE at 1-800-284-4823 or 641-752-4645. The registration deadline is Sept. 13, 2012.
