Resources for Students

What is ASSIST?

The transition to college can sometimes be a confusing and difficult experience. ASSIST (Accessing Support Services to Insure Successful Transitions) is a program that helps Iowa Valley Grinnell students achieve their educational goals.

We believe that adequate preparation and continuous support will increase student success. Our goal is to help you earn a degree or diploma, increasing opportunities for success in your future.

Our ASSIST staff will work with you at your own pace to identify and access the resources you need to succeed! ASSIST’s one-stop services include:

  • Academic advising
  • Appropriate class placement
  • Orientation to college life
  • Development of an Individualized Success Plan (ISP) matched to your personal strengths and needs
  • Study Strategies workshops
  • Peer mentoring
  • Career planning
  • Identification of other recourses to ease college transition such as:
    • Community Resources
    • Help with filing FAFSA
    • Help filling out college paperwork

ASSIST Peer Mentor Program
The ASSIST Peer Mentor program is designed as another resource to help ease new students’ transition to college.
Second-year ASSIST students serve as mentors to first-year students. The mentors are a great resource for information on various activities, clubs and organizations, study habits, college resources, and the entire college process.
