Anatomy & Physiology
Strike 3, You're OUT. "I wonder if the coach will try the XYZ strategy." "I wish I could go down there and help the team." If you've ever had these thoughts while you're watching from the bleachers, maybe it's time for you to "step up to the plate" and become a coach yourself. This is one of the four courses required to get an Iowa coaching authorization. Learn the Basics of Anatomy (structure) and Physiology (function) of the human body and how it relates to sports. This information is a must for all qualified coached.

Human Growth & Development
"Take me out to the ball game." As every good coach knows there is more to a game than strategy. This is one of 4 courses required to get your Iowa coaching authorization. Learn how human growth and social, physical and cognitive development fit into the coaching process and affect your athletes and your team.

Prevention & Care of Athletic Injuries
TOUCHDOWN... You have to be in the game to win the game, right? Athletic injuries have been known to derail individual athletes and even entire teams over the course of a season. In this third of four courses needed to obtain your coaching authorization, you'll learn how to prevent athletic injuries, and how to care for various injuries if they occur. The instructor is the director of a rehab and sports medicine out-patient clinic with lots of experience and knowledge to share. So... don't let a sports injury keep you "out of the game".

Techniques, Theory & Ethics/Coaching
GOAL...SMASH...SPIKE...Anyone can scream from the bleachers (and many folks do), but what athletes need is a qualified coach with a solid understanding of strategy who will develop them into the best athletes they can be. In this coaching authorization course, you'll learn about the techniques and theories of coaching. The course also includes a strong overview of all-important ethics. Your instructor is a long-time coach with many examples and insights that will help new coaches be more successful.
