Beginning Knitting
Darlene Brandt has taught knitting for Iowa Valley many times. She has worked with those who have a knack for knitting and those who don't, and she always manages to teach both types very successfully. At this time, she thinks your project will be some warm booties to wear on cold winter evenings. She asks that you bring 1 skein of 4 ply yarn and two #6 needles. Learn to knit in the comfortable atmosphere of her home.

Machine Quilting
Learn to machine quilt on you own machine. Participants will try their hands at grid, stitch-in-the-ditch, outline, stipple, meander, echo, machine guided, free motion, machine tying, machine appliqué, and novelty quilting techniques. In addition the class will include information about battings, stencils, marking tools and threads. Beginners through professionals will benefit from this informative and challenging fun filled class. One of the best this instructor offers. Hundreds of people have taken it. Quilting Workshop: SWIM
Summer Workshop in Marshalltown (SWIM) is the second open workshop in Marshalltown. It's never too hot to quilt especially in the air conditioning! This time the theme is 'vests'. Quilted vests, panel vests, vests from old blue jeans, dressy vests, vests for kids, reversible vests, embellished vests, quick-easy-simple vests, tricky-complicated vests, & more---bring some ideas & samples of your own. Bring a pattern or design that you want help figuring out. Bring a clever idea about vest making. Or, forget about vests completely & bring any other project you would like to work on. This two day event will include a demo or two, shared goodies, door prizes, and lots of fun being with others & exchanging ideas. Register and pay at least a week in advance to receive information.

Quilting: Signs of Fall
Brightly colored leaves & migrating geese are signs of fall. Using gorgeous fall fabrics, perhaps even some with a hint of metallic gold in them, participants in this class will construct a traditional Maple Leaf block (with a unique twist) & a block featuring some (fast) Flying Geese. Two of each of these blocks can be arranged into a wall hanging or table topper or even a set of placemats. Lots of quilting techniques & bits of folklore will be included. Preregister & pay one week prior to class to receive supply list.
