What is GED?
The GED is a way for adults who dropped out of school to earn a high school equivalency diploma. There are five tests:

  • Language Arts, Writing

  • Language Arts, Reading
  • Science
Who can take the GED?
Anyone 18 years of age or older who is not enrolled in high school and whose class has already graduated can take the GED tests. With special permission, 17-year-olds can take the tests.

How should I prepare?
The first step is to take the GED pre-tests. They are free and will predict how well you will do on the GED and what subjects you might need to brush up on. Pre-tests are given at the classes.

How much does the GED cost?
Pre-testing and course instruction are free. There is a fee to purchase the book. GED testing is $85 and covers all five tests, the diploma fee and transcripts.

When are GED classes?
Iowa Valley Continuing Eduction offers GED preparation classes in several locations throughout the district. For the current schedule of GED classes, published in the EdVenture catalog, click here for Edventure online.
