Coaching authorization 2013
MARSHALLTOWN - Iowa Valley Continuing Education will be offering the Coaching Authorization Series of classes this spring beginning on February 4 and concluding in April. These five different classes will meet the state of Iowa requirements for coaching authorization when completing the series or the specific classes that are needed.
The first class will be Anatomy and Physiology on Feb. 4 - 6, from 6 - 9:30 pm. Learn the structure and function of the human body through a functional approach from instructor, Barry Tocheri, who has been a physical therapist for 30 years. During his career he has had the opportunity to work with all levels of athletics, including professional hockey. Gain an increased knowledge and understanding of why and how injuries occur. Cost is $89, course number is REC 4002 050 and registration and payment is due Jan. 28.
The second class is Techniques, Theory and Ethics in Coaching offeredFeb. 18 - 20, 6 -9:30 pm and Feb. 21 from 5 - 10:00 pm. Basic theory related to coaching and how to apply this theory will be taught using a variety of techniques. The last class will cover the required five hours of ethics in coaching. The instructor is Mike Loupee, a 23 year coach of multiple sports. Cost is $109, course number is REC 4004 040 and the registration and payment deadline is Feb. 11.
If only the Ethics class is needed, it will be held on Feb. 21, 5 -10:00 pm. The instructor is Mike Loupee and the cost is $45. Course number is REC 4005 030 and the registration and payment deadline is Feb. 11.
The fourth class is Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries that will meet on March 4-6 and March 11-12, from 6 - 10:00 pm. Learn how to prevent a variety of athletic injuries and if they do occur what can be done for immediate treatment and care of that injury for the athlete. Terri Westendorf, a long time coach, will share her knowledge and expertise in this valuable class. Cost is $159, course number is REC 4003 040 and the registration and payment deadline is Feb. 25.
The last class is Human Growth and Development and it will meet on April 11 and April 15 – 17 from 6 - 9:00 pm. Learn the physical, social, psychological aspects of growth and development as a part of the coaching authorization series. Instructor Sylvia Grandgeorge has years of teaching experience and she will share her knowledge and expertise with the class. Cost is $89, course number is REC 4001 036 and the registration and payment deadline is April 4.
Coaching can be rewarding and challenging and this series of classes will help prepare new coaches to meet these challenges as they coach teams and make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
