Creating engaging online courses
MARSHALLTOWN – Iowa Valley Continuing Education will be offering, “Creating Engaging Online Courses,” Wednesday evenings, Jan. 30- Feb. 27 from 6 – 9 pm. The class will be located at the Business and Technology Center, on the northeast corner of the MCC campus, 3700 S. Center St., Marshalltown, room 201.
The course will go from the basics of putting together an online course to adding the bells and whistles that enhance student engagement. Learn some of the newer, more advanced features that can be used in distance education. Although this course is being conducted on ANGEL, the principles can be used on any LMS like Moodle or Blackboard. Depending on student interest, the instructor will go over ANGEL setup, grade book use, discussion groups and assessments. Continue on to cover topics such as using question pools, video clips, the Helix server, ANGEL agents, basic HTML editing, and other LMS development tools such as SoftChalk. Upon request, the instructor can show participants how to use these features on Moodle and Blackboard. The instructor is Joe Struss, IVCCD Online Course Designer.
