Meditation & mindfulness in daily life
GRINNELL – Mindfulness is the practice of becoming more present in our lives while they are happening. Though it can be easy to see the importance of mindfulness, it can be quite difficult to consistently be present in the here and now due to the many inner and outer forces pulling our attention elsewhere.
Iowa Valley Continuing Education is offering a course that focuses on practical, do-able skills that can help reconnect body and mind in the present moment, and to be more resourced as we meet the challenges of daily life. Meditation instructions and periods of silent sitting, along with interactive conflict resolution exercises, will be a part of this skill-building course.
Instructor Jeff Wells is a therapist and addictions counselor in private practice in Grinnell. He has worked in the field of social services for more than 20 years and his work has been strongly influenced by his meditation, mindfulness and Aikido practices. He has a particular interest in conflict resolution, with an emphasis on resolving the discord within ourselves in order to bring more harmony into the circumstances of our daily lives.
“Meditation & Mindfulness in Daily Life,” course number HEW 1012 112, will be held on eight Wednesdays, Feb. 20 through April 10, from 6 to 7:30 pm. Class will be located at Iowa Valley Grinnell, 123 6th Avenue West, Grinnell, room 209. Cost is $55.
