Steppin' out onto the dance floor
MARSHALLTOWN – Whether you want to get a little exercise, get ou
t of the house and meet some new people, get ready for an upcoming wedding, or just have some fun ... your next step should be to enroll in one or more of the Iowa Valley Continuing Education dance classes. Our popular instructor, Faythe Kubik, has put together several classes that are sure to entice you and your partner onto the dance floor. Last spring several high school students, along with their Prom date, took one or more of Faythe’s classes and had a great time! Over 80 people are in the current session of dance classes. Choose one or more of these late winter classes which have been rescheduled to begin Sundays, March 3 to April 7!
“Get Ready for Beginning Swing,” course # REC 1808 399, is a great place to start. Depending on your mood and style, it can be wild and energetic or smooth and classy. Start with the basics and build from there. Learn the “double time” swing which is a companion to the foxtrot/two step family so you can go back and forth between the two dances. Swing has great rhythm and style and goes with all styles of music: fifties and sixties, current pop, country, big band, rock, and blues. It’s upbeat, fun, and always in style!
If you know the basics of rock sway and you’ve been wanting more variations, take “Wonderful Rock Sway Additions,” course # REC 1808 336. You’ll be learning many more under-arm-turns. This dance is so much fun and so versatile. Do you consider yourself an intermediate to advanced dancer? Choose “Swing – Tunnels, Double Tunnels & Wraps Continue,” course # REC 1808 337 and/or “Quickstep Keeps Dancing Onward,” course # REC 1808 338. All classes are $48 per person.
For those wanting a short-term workshop check out “Exciting Blue Rose Additions” on Feb. 24; “Sizzle with Salsa!” on March 3; “Line Dance: ‘Zorba’” on March 17, singles welcome; “The Classy Foxtrot & Fun Two Step” on April 7 and “The Easy & So Fun Party Swing” on April 14. These five workshops are held 12:30 – 2:25 pm. Cost is $20 per person.
