Enter the fascinating world of games
GRINNELL – Imagine you are the leader in a strange new world where you must place towns and roads to maximize resources while astute trading supplements your needs. Or maybe you help create the very landscape, then attempt to control its key features. Want to be a merchant at auction attempting to fill your ship with precious goods at low prices? If these scenarios sound familiar, odds are you’ve been playing Settlers of Cataan, Carcassonne or Medici.
These and many other increasingly popular games are part of the growing number of Euro-style board games by such renowned designers as Reiner Knizia, Klaus Teuber and Leo Colovini. They are easy to learn and play, but difficult to master. Now you can enter this fascinating world by becoming a part of a group that meets weekly to play these games. Several games may be introduced during the course of the meetings, based on participants’ interests. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
“Settlers of Cataan and Much More,” course number FUN 1410 001, is being offered for 10 Saturdays, March 2 through May 4, from 1 to 4 pm at Drake Community Library, 930 Park St. in Grinnell. The course is open enrollment and can be joined at any time, but the fee is $12 regardless of when you join. Attendance each week is encouraged but not required.
