Beginning Spanish II
GRINNELL – Already have knowledge of basic Spanish but want to learn more? Beginning Spanish II is meant for those who have already grasped the basics and are ready to move deeper into the language.
In order to take this class, you must have knowledge of nouns, present tense verbs, feminine and masculine words, the Spanish alphabet, vowel and syllables in Spanish, how to count to 100, tell time, read simple math problems, how to greet in Spanish and how to conduct a courtesy conversation. In Beginning Spanish II, you will learn more verbs, pronunciation and accent marks, counting over 100, past, present, and future tenses of verbs with forms of the imperfect tense, and do more reading and writing in Spanish. Class work will be based on a college level Spanish textbook. All learning materials will be provided.
Instructor Sixta Hernandez was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Chicago as a child, learning English as a second language. She moved back to Puerto Rico as a teenager and spent several decades there, including 18 years working for Proctor and Gamble before moving to Grinnell in 2006. She has a degree in business administration and secretarial science and has tutored high school students in Spanish over the years.
Beginning Spanish II will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays, March 31 to May 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Cost of the class is $79 and will be located at Iowa Valley Grinnell, 123 6th Ave. West, room 109.
