Learn to play banjo
GRINNELL – Have a banjo in the closet that hasn’t been out in awhile? How about finally taking some lessons? IVCE is offering a class that will provide individualized lessons for the five string banjo. Select the style that best fits. Learn either the old time style, claw hammer or the bluegrass style of finger picking. The instructor’s goal is to enable others to play or jam in a group setting or band. Each student will receive six individual lessons that are 45 minutes in length.
Each lesson will be tailored by the instructor to your style of learning music, whether its learning by ear, by sheet music, or repetition. Instructor, Fred Buck, has played banjo for over 30 years and has taught at other institutions for over 20 years. He understands what it takes to help someone play an instrument. After registering, the time for each weekly lesson must be scheduled through the instructor by calling 641-417-9400. Registration will be closed after April 18. Lessons may begin on April 22 and will run no later than June 2. Participants will provide their own banjo.
The cost is $30 per lesson and will be held at Iowa Valley Grinnell, 123 6th Avenue West, Grinnell, room 150. To register for course number FUN 3003 001, contact Iowa Valley Continuing Education at 1-800-284-4823 or 641-752-4645. For more information check out the IVCE website at www.IowaValley.com.
