Dog Obedience: It's all in the Communication
GRINNELL – Dog obedience isn't just about teaching your dog commands, it's about learning how to communicate with your dog so that they can understand you, and you can understand them. Iowa Valley Continuing Education is offering, Dog Obedience: It's all in the Communication.
Good manners for dogs don't just happen they come through practice and communication. This 6 week course will start with a basic assessment of your dog's temperament and behavior and then move into a series of exercises to help your dog recognize its name, understand basic cues, focus on its owner, come when called, and socialize nicely with other dogs. You will learn how to practice basic obedience and behavior modification, how to understand signs of stress in your dog, and how to address common safety and behavioral issues. You should expect to have 10-20 minutes of "homework" with your dog outside of class time to successfully reinforce the training provided in class. The instructor will test your dog's progress over the five classes, providing you with a chart of their improvement as well as a certificate of completion, prize ribbons for individual dogs and owners, and a gift bag at the final class. You should bring your dog to class hungry and dogs must be leashed at all times. You must also provide a copy of up-to-date documentation of your pet's vaccinations at the first class in order to participate.
Instructor Kate Wolver is a graduate of Animal Behavior College (ABC) where she earned her certification as a dog trainer.
