Ethics for Nurses
MARSHALLTOWN – Ethics for Nurses continuing education course will be offered on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 9 am-noon at the Iowa Veterans Home, Whitehill Auditorium.
Presenter J.R. Lynn Boes, is a registered nurse and a lawyer. She has a broad background in nursing practice during the past 35 years and she graduated from the Drake Law School with Honors in 1996. Ms. Boes's projects include drafting legislative language, representing clients at hearings, presenting speeches on legal issues in health care, and researching case law, statutory law, and regulatory law for the purpose of rendering legal opinions.
During Ms. Boes's presentation she will identify the source of ethics for nurses, talk about the difference between ethics and legal regulation of the practice of nursing, identify the legal and ethical boundaries in the nurse-patient relationship, and in the nurse and patient's family relationships. She will also examine social media and electronic communications in ethical standards of conduct, describe four practices that the Iowa Board of Nursing describes as unethical conduct, and discuss legal and ethical implications for nursing practice in a variety of health care settings.
Ethics for Nurses will provide nurses with 0.30 CEUs. Cost of the class is $35. Online registration and payment for course HEP 3132.(1) can be accomplished at www.Iowavalley.com.
