Creative Retirement plans for 2014
MARSHALLTOWN – On Thursday April 24 the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Creative Retirement Program Council met at the Orpheum Theater Center to plan programs for 2014 Summer and Fall activities.
Those present were Conrad Dejardin, Bob Moore, Flo Kapaun, Bert Permar, Carol Permar, Sue Martin and Fred Wyngarden. Program ideas that were discussed included "Come To the Table" concerning locally grown produce, continuance of the Friday Round Table, a current events discussion group that meets bi-weekly year round, "Learning to Cook" a three session program conducted by Gourmet Chefs of the Marshalltown area, The Psychology of Aging led by Bob Moore, The Fall Kickoff Luncheon with Terry Rich of the Iowa Lottery, and other programs of like interest to those persons over 50 years of age.
Other topics and ideas put forward included field trips to Riemann Gardens in Ames, The Raptor Sanctuary in Hardin County, a trip to the Dubuque Mississippi River Museum and river boat cruise, Yankee Doodle Pops concert during 4th of July week on the Capitol Grounds, the State Historical Society Museum, a Trip to the Red Granite Farm, a trip to Minneapolis for the Prairie Home Companion Show and several other suggestions.
Another meeting will be held May 22 to finalize the program agenda. Creative Retirement members are welcome to attend and submit suggestions. Please contact Lindsey Van Wyk at the Orpheum Theater 641-752-4311 with your ideas as well.
