GRINNELL – IVCE is offering an exciting interactive workshop for people looking to increase the productivity of their lawn, landscape and garden! "Composting 101," will explore if your compost pile is really working, what makes good compost and much more. Compost helps build organic matter, which enhances the biological activity in soil needed for nutrients to become available to roots
In this workshop you will find out what you might be doing wrong with your pile, what constitutes good compost, and simple ways to get better compost. Different systems for home composting, including vermicomposting, and different uses for compost will also be covered, including compost tea. You will see a hot compost pile in action and see actual systems of composting on a working vegetable farm. Workshop will be held indoors if raining.
"Composting 101," course number ENV 1202 (1), will take place at Middle Way Farm, 3633 Hwy. 146, Grinnell. Class will be held on Saturday, May 17, 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Cost of the class is $12.
