General and Limited Practice Radiographer May 2013
MARSHALLTOWN – Iowa Valley Continuing Education will be offeringgeneral and limited practice radiographer courses this May. Each class is approved for 3 hours of continuing education credit through the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Radiological Health for general and limited radiographers and 0.3 CEUs for nurses.
The first class is “Safety in Imaging Part 1,” on May 16, from 6:00-9:00 pm with a course number of HEP 3303-016. In this course you will review radiation safety for imaging professionals, state the most important duty of an imaging professional, explain what scrubbing has to do with safety, list safety issues connected with lead aprons, explain why radiation badges may be needed on flights, discuss other modality safety concerns, recognize equipment safety issues, review research on front-line imaging providers, explain how verification impacts imaging, state who is accountable for safety in imaging, discuss safety issues in meeting the clinical needs of the patient and recognize the number one priority of imaging professionals. The registration deadline is May 8.
The second class is “Imaging Williams Syndrome” on May 29 from 6:00-9:00 pm with a course number of HEP 3303-017. During this class you will explain William’s Syndrome and its characteristics, describe the role that imaging professionals play in the diagnosis and treatment of William’s Syndrome, identify special needs of William’s Syndrome individuals during imaging exams, and explain how to provide imaging services to the William’s Syndrome individual and their families/providers. The registration deadline is May 21.
Both of these classes will be held at Iowa valley Continuing Education, 3702 S Center St., Marshalltown, room 608. Cost of each class is $65. The presenter is Doreen Towsley-Cook, MAE, RTR, FAERS who presents radiographer continuing education courses all over the country and has authored materials related to the practice of radiography. Doreen’s classes are fun, interactive and you will learn techniques that will enhance your practice as a general or a limited radiographer.
