How to talk so kids listen and listen so kids will talk
MARSHALLTOWN – Have you ever muttered "There has to be a better way!" Come add more tools to your child-raising toolbox. Read, practice, and discuss the following topics: Dealing with all feelings. Limiting certain actions; Discipline ideas; Engage a child's cooperation; Encourage autonomy/independence; Praise and self-esteem; Free children from playing roles (bully, cry-baby, the nice kid, the athletic kid...). This class is based on books, by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish.
Acquire the following books online or at any bookstore before class – "How To Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk," and "Liberated Parents/Liberated Children." The instructor will have the required $12 workbook available for purchase at the first class.
The cost is $37 and will be held at Iowa Valley Continuing Education, 3702 S. Center St., Marshalltown, room 805. This course will be held on Thursdays, June 27 – August 8 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, course number FAM 1018 006. There will be no class on July 4th.
