Iowa Valley Continuing Education offers industrial maintenance training
MARSHALLTOWN – Iowa Valley Continuing Education is proud to announce a new partnership with JBS and Iowa Workforce Development in Marshalltown. The businesses will be joining together to offer a six-week paid industrial maintenance training program that could lead to permanent positions at JBS.
Student interested in the program will be directed to Iowa Workforce to take pre-screen testing with the NCRC. After passing the screening, students will take part in a two-day job shadowing with an industrial maintenance person at JBS. If the student continues to be interested in the position, selected participants will continue training through IVCE.
This course is designed to provide workers with the basic knowledge and skills required for positions in industrial maintenance and job success. The course provides a fundamental understanding of math, job success skills, hand tools, motors and controls, mechanical drives and fluid power. Students will be given an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience from classroom instruction and hands-on examinations. Students will be paid a salary through a temp agency provided by JBS during the training period. Successful completion of the training will allow attendees a potential job offer from JBS. They can earn up to $25 per hour as they move up levels at JBS.
"We have been doing industrial maintenance training with current employees at JBS for nearly two years for all shifts," commented IVCE Coordinator Jean Brownlie. "We are excited to continue our great relationship with the company on this new project."
The training has already started for the first session of this new educational opportunity.
