Limited Practice Radiographer
MARSHALLTOWN - The Limited Practice Radiographer course will be offered August 14 to Dec. 11, 2013. This course will meet every Wednesday afternoon from 1:00-4:30 pm. This is a 100-hour state approved course, which is required by law, and is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to safely administer “limited” diagnostic radiographs in medical offices. Radiographic physics, principles of exposure, film processing, anatomy and positioning; radiation biology and protection will be studied and discussed as well as practiced in your clinical setting.
During this 17 week course you will learn to recognize the legal and ethical responsibilities of the “limited” radiographer, apply basic principles to explain the function of x-ray machines and technical factors for exposing diagnostic radiographs, use correct technical factors and quality control in achieving the diagnostic radiograph with minimal patient exposure, maintain the darkroom and process the film to achieve the greatest results and prevent retakes, determine correct patient preparation and positioning, projections, film size, central ray direction, exposure factors to provide best visibility for radiographs ordered within safety guidelines, demonstrate an ability to evaluate radiographs relative to technique factors, positioning, film processing, and minimum exposure, maximum safety, practice radiation protection for patients and personnel, including recognizing biological effects, maximum permissible dosage levels, shielding, and monitoring.
This course is designed for nurses, medical and chiropractic assistants, anyone working in a medical clinic wanting to learn how to perform limited radiography. This course is taught via the ICN classroom with several locations around the state. The cost of the course is $975 which covers materials, and classroom instruction. Each student will be responsible to purchase and bring the books with them to class.
