Mike Glover to present “Notes from Flyover Country” at Fall Creative Retirement Kickoff September 6
MARSHALLTOWN –The kickoff for the Fall 2013 Iowa Valley Continuing Education (IVCE) Creative Retirement program is just around the corner! Special guest speaker will be Mike Glover, well-known journalist, covering 40 years of politics for newspapers in Illinois and Iowa. Glover’s luncheon program will be “Notes from Flyover Country,” Friday, September 6, 2013, at IVCE, Dejardin Hall, from noon – 1 pm. Lunch for the event will open at 11:30 am.
Most of Glover’s reporting career was spent with The Associated Press (AP). Glover covered the Iowa caucuses, as they’ve evolved from local partisan affairs to the all-important, make or break events they are today. During presidential election cycles, Glover was a part of the traveling press for AP, covering candidates from Jesse Jackson to George W. Bush and including extensive stints, covering Al Gore, John McCain and John Kerry. Glover was a regular panelist on the Iowa Public Television series, “Iowa Press,” for 30 years, where he interviewed county officials and presidential candidates alike for a statewide audience. He also has moderated debates and hosted special election series. Glover is frequently called upon to offer his insight and analysis about Iowa politics on national networks, including MSNBC, CNN, CSPAN and others. His program, “Notes from Flyover Country,” will encompass his 40 years of presidential politics in the State of Iowa, “where it all begins,” according to Glover, as well as travels in the rest of the country. There will be time allowed for questions at the end of the presentation.
Glover’s presentation is made possible by Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa brings humanities programs into the heart of Iowa communities. This luncheon is open to the public, as well as Creative Retirement members. Cost is $15. Persons must register for the lunch program, and can do so by calling IVCE at 641-752-4645 and register for course number CRT 1001 021.
