Senior Poveerty topic for Creative Retirement luncheon
MARSHALLTOWN –Did you know that the fastest growing poverty population in the country, even right here in Iowa, are those persons over the age of 60? This shocking statistic and surrounding information will be presented by Mike Isaacson, Executive Director, Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging, during his presentation to the Iowa Valley Continuing Education Creative Retirement luncheon, "Senior Poverty," Friday, Oct. 25 at IVCE, Dejardin Hall.
We hear about poverty in the news all of the time, but we usually think of poverty as an issue in other countries or in larger more urban settings, according to Isaacson. He noted that typically the face given of poverty is that of hungry children or third world villages but poverty is not confined exclusively to these populations. In this luncheon program, Isaacson will present the effects of poverty on our older populations, how it affects family structure and communities as well as where people can turn for help. There will be time for questions and answers.
