Discover Kombucha Tea through IVCE
GRINNELL – What is Kombucha Tea? How can you make it? IVCE is offering a great opportunity to find out more about Kombucha tea and why it is becoming so popular. How to Make Kombucha Tea will be held on Thursday, November 1, 6:30-7:30 pm.
Kombucha tea is a fermented drink originating in Asia made by introducing a living culture into tea sweetened with sugar. In recent years, commercially produced kombucha has become a popular product sold at health food stores and groceries. Why buy it when you can easily make it yourself?
This one session class will give you information about the origin and biology of kombucha while walking you through the process of making your own kombucha tea, including ideas for creating flavors just like the brands sold commercially. Several flavors of kombucha will be available during class to sample. As part of the class you will receive your own kombucha culture, starter tea, and instructions to begin brewing at home. Learn how to ensure the safety of your batch and deal with problems that may arise while brewing. It will be a useful class for both beginning kombucha brewers and those who have already tried brewing but would like to become more knowledgeable.
Class will be held at Iowa Valley Grinnell, CDC Kitchen. Cost of this class is $12, along with an additional $6 payable to the instructor for materials. Registrations can be completed by calling Iowa Valley Continuing Education at 1-800-284-4823 or 641-752-4645. Please register by Tues., Oct. 30.
