2007-2008 Softball Preview

The 2008 MCC softball team will feature 10 returning sophomores as well as a recruiting class of 12 incoming freshman. The Tigers return 5 All-Region players including: Pitcher Billi Leah Gray (Ames, IA) Outfielder Lexi Everman (Postville, IA) Infielder Michelle Elliott (Newton, IA) Utility Player Jesse Williams (New Sharon, IA) and 3^rd Baseman Ashley Dille (Colfax, IA). Dille was named to the All-Region 1^st Team while the others were all named to the Honorable Mention All-Region Team. Dille was also named 1^st Team Academic All- Region along with Everman, Williams and Lindsay White (Chariton, IA). Marie Kersey (Albany, MO) and Ashley Goepferich (D-C-G, IA) were named 2^nd Team Academic All- Region.

The 2008 recruiting class is highlighted by five IGHSAU All-State performers Sara Heeren - P(Mount Vernon, IA) Kate Snuggs - C (Chariton, IA) Brooke Ellis - 1B (Carlisle, IA) Jessyca DuBois - 2B (Carlisle, IA) and Alyssa Eckerman - OF (Garner-Hayfield, IA). Other in state recruits include Sunnie Walker (Newton, IA) Nadia Drake (Madrid, IA) Allie Roberts (State Center, IA) Kendra Markle (North Scott, IA) and Katlyn Huinker (Garner-Hayfield, IA). Pitcher Rachel Meyer (Fort Calhoun, NE) is a Two-Time all-State selection from Nebraska.

The Tigers will be looking to improve on their 8^th place conference finish in 2007 as well as improve on their 14^th place national ranking in Team GPA. The Lady Tigers finished the 2006 season ranked 5^th nationally in Team GPA.

Once again a tough non-conference schedule of NJCAA DI and NCAA opponents will push the team to improve quickly. The Tigers should be vastly improved both defensively as well as at the plate. Overall team speed will be an asset as several players have qualified for state track meets in the past. With the departure of former All-Region Players Kristen Crozier (Grand View College) and Sierra Bevins (Iowa Wesleyan), the hitting and pitching will need to come around in order for the team to reach their goals for the 2008 season.
