Construction – Residential and Commercial
Program Summary
As a first year
residential carpentry student, you will learn such skills as concrete,
finishing, framing and cabinet hanging. You’ll study these areas in the
classroom and then practice your skills in the lab.
You’ll develop
knowledge of the tools, equipment, building styles and materials
utilized in home construction. Your knowledge will then be applied to
skill development in the actual construction of a house where you’ll do
all the work, from estimating to finish!
Completion of the second
year in commercial construction will give you more hands-on experience,
more construction skills and more general education and business courses
to either transfer to a four-year college or progress more quickly in
the industry. You will work on actual commercial construction sites
around the state as an On-The-Job Training experience and gain the
valuable skills employers are looking for. And you’ll be paid!
Job opportunities are
plentiful for construction work. Well-trained workers will have the best
employment opportunities.
Degrees Offered
Both the first year
residential program and the second year commercial program offer
diplomas. Both diplomas transfer easily into the Construction Technology
AAS degree.
