Give the Educational Edge
Your generosity reinforces MCC’s mission of access and
gives students an educational edge. Your investments in education are
ultimately, investments in their future and our community’s future.
THANK YOU!
MCC continues to grow. Spring 2007 enrollment of 1,809
was 8.3 % higher than the previous spring! Campus has been very busy
throughout the year with construction of the new welding lab, student activity
center, and housing unit. These additions will help us serve students
better and enhance the quality student learning and life at MCC.
New Scholarships!
The Keith & Ada Brown Family Scholarship for $1000
will benefit a women’s or men’s basketball player. The Brown’s children
are: Bryan Brown, a 1985 MCC graduate who lives in Marshalltown; Lisa
Brown Lindley, Cedar Rapids; and Blake Brown, Des Moines. Keith and
Ada’s granddaughter, Ashley Brown, MCC 2004, was a member of the Tiger
Women’s Basketball team and graduated from Grandview College in 2006,
where she also played basketball. Keith & Ada and their family have
been strong supporters of MCC and the greater Marshalltown community for
many years. Their gift is an extension of their desire to help MCC
students.
The Susan L. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship honors
Sue’s zest for life and education. She was passionate about her career
and wanting to help people in their darkest hours. Sue died suddenly at
age 43 in September 2005 of complications from cancer treatments. She
was co-owner with her husband, Marty, of Mitchell Family Funeral Home,
Marshalltown. Her family established this $350 scholarship for a
sophomore studying in Mortuary Science or Human Services.
The James Warren and Helen Ruth Pattie Scholarship
was establishes by Mr. Pattie in September of 2006. This $6,500
scholarship is for an MCC graduate who is admitted and enrolled as a
junior at an accredited Iowa college or university and is seeking a
4-year degree.
J. Warren Pattie practiced law in Marshalltown from
1930-1973 and was a partner with George Hinshaw when he retired. He
attended Mason City Junior College for one year and graduated from the
University of Iowa with a law degree in 1930. Mrs. Pattie taught at
Woodbury and Glick schools in the early 30’s and was active in several
women’s organizations. She attended Grinnell College and was a 1930
graduate of the University of Iowa. Warren and Helen were married in
1932. They have two children: James P. (Phil) Pattie of Mesa, AZ, and
Mary K. Pattie Wells of Ames.
The Patties enjoyed a lifetime of community service
during their 65 years in Marshalltown. Sadly, Mr. Pattie passed away at
age 99 on December 17, 2006. This scholarship represents a continuation
of their legacy and their desire to financially assist MCC graduates to
complete the 4-year degree.
Also, two planned gifts were revealed but the donors wish
to remain anonymous at this time and several donors made substantial
additions to already established endowed funds
An increase in enrollment means there’s an increased
need for scholarships. As the MCC Foundation begins the 41st Annual
Campaign, we invite you to participate in Giving the Educational Edge to
a MCC student this year.
Thank You to all who have made gifts in the past years!
