Tigers score conference win
MARSHALLTOWN, IA - The MCC women's basketball team (6-11, 1-4) notched their first conference win of the season, upending previously ranked Southeastern Community College (13-6, 4-2) 65-54.
Sophomore Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA) scored a season high 23 points, going 5 of 7 from behind the three point arc. Freshman Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA) put up 18 points of her own and pulled down 10 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the season.
The Blackhawks only lead of the game would be at the 19 minute mark of the first half. The Tigers went to the locker room holding a 31 to 26 advantages. The Tigers would extend their lead to as many 17 points with just over five minutes remaining in the second half.
The Tigers shot 52 percent from the field, to just 35 percent by the Blackhawks. MCC also held an edge on the boards, out rebounding the visitors 31 to 24.
The Tigers will continue conference play, hosting Southwestern Community College Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Student Activities Center. Tip-off against the Spartans is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
