MCC students selected to 2014 All-Iowa Academic Team
Marshalltown Community College students, Cody Schmitz and Lindsey Yanecek, were honored as members of the “2014 All-Iowa Community College Academic Team” at a banquet held last week in Des Moines. A maximum of two students are nominated each year for the honor. The banquet was hosted by the Iowa Association of Community Colleges Trustees (IACCT) and Iowa Western Community College.
Cody was nominated for his exemplary academic record and campus involvement. His involvement included being an Admissions Ambassador for two years, member of Phi Theta Kappa, Resident Assistant for student housing, and college tutor. Cody will graduate from MCC this spring and plans on transferring to Iowa State University where he will major in Finance.
Lindsey was also nominated for her outstanding academic record plus involvement in campus activities. She is the current president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, was selected as Iowa Regional Vice President for the Northeast District this spring, and also tutors students on campus. Lindsey will graduate this spring and plans on transferring to the University of Northern Iowa where she will major in Biology.
In attendance at the banquet were Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor; Dr. Robin Shaffer Lilienthal, MCC Provost; Dr. Chris Russell, MCC Dean of Students & Academic Affairs; Pele Waddilove, PJ Colbert, and Renaie Hutzel, chapter advisors; Cody Schmitz and members of his family; and Lindsey Yanecek and members of her family.
