Wilson, Biehl land weekly ICCAC honors
MARSHALLTOWN - Sophomore Sarah Wilson (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) and freshman Lexie Biehl (Maquoketa, IA/Maquoketa) have been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. The two helped lead the Tigers to three wins over the weekend.
Despite earning just one win in the circle, Wilson provided back-to-back dominant pitching performances for MCC on Saturday at the RCTC Early Bird Dome Tournament. The sophomore held Bethel University JV to seven scoreless innings in the team's opening game at the Tournament, but an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning dropped the Tigers 1-0. Wilson struck out a career-high 10 batters while yielding just four hits.
Wilson returned to the circle for the team's final game of the night and tossed a complete game 10-0 shutout, striking out nine batters and allowing four hits and walking just one batter. Wilson lowered her season earned run average to 2.75 and upped her strikeout total to 34 batters in 20.1 innings pitched.
While Wilson kept opponents from crossing the plate, Biehl lit up the scoreboard with a potent offensive attack for the Tigers. In six games over the weekend, the rookie batted .611 (11-18) and slugged 1.111 at the plate with 20 total bases. Biehl has recorded a hit in all seven games for the Tigers this year and leads MCC with a .571 average on the year.
In two games against Dakota County Technical College on Friday, Biehl went 3-6 with three runs scored. The freshman upped her performance on Saturday, going 2-4 against Bethel and 3-4 with a double and a run scored in a 13-1 win over Riverland Community College. Biehl displayed her power against Rochester Community and Technical College in the team's third game, going 2-2 with a pair of home runs, the first of her career, and three RBI. Biehl closed out the night with a two-run double in a 10-0 win over Minnesota West Community and Technical College.
The Tigers return to action with a pair of games at Southeast Community College on Thursday before heading to Oklahoma to take part in the Midwest Classic this weekend.
