MCC Foundation recognizes donor support of students
The Marshalltown Community College Foundation awarded over $230,000 in academic, athletic, and financial need scholarships last year, plus nearly $9,000 for equipment and department projects, closing with a $4.03 million endowment. That would not have been possible without the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organizations that care about helping students take their next step at MCC. For 48 years, the MCC Foundation’s mission has been to help as many students as possible that want to come to MCC, and every year it takes time to thank those who have contributed toward the many scholarship funds that make it all possible.
Carol Geil, Executive Director, MCC Foundation, introduced the MCC Foundation Board of Directors who were present on April 10, and then recognized the donors who attended the banquet. She spoke on “Lifting Students Up,” and how scholarships are part of a two-part process at MCC. First, some students need a helping ‘hand’ in paying tuition and fees to get their education started. Then the completion of their program at MCC ‘lifts them up’ into the skilled labor force, or prepares them for continued higher education at a 4-year college.
