MCC seeks host families for two YFU students this fall
Marshalltown Community College will welcome two new Youth for Understanding (YFU) international exchange students for the 2013-14 school year. Julien, 17, from France, and Morten, 19, from Denmark, are seeking a host family this fall.
Julien thinks the English language is beautiful and has traveled to the U.S. three times on family vacations. The first time he visited he said, “It was love at first sight.” He is excited to come back and practice his English skills and to take a variety of courses to help him decide his career path. Julien is very athletic, likes to spend time outdoors and loves animals. He is very open-minded and looks forward to getting to know his host family and the community.
Morten is ready to explore American life and culture as an exchange student. He is described by friends and family as a relaxed guy who enjoys looking on the bright side of life and loves to make people laugh. A good student, Morten has a passion for sailing, and anything having to so with wind and water. He looks forward to improving his English and becoming a part of a family.
Interested families may host a student for a semester or a year. As a host family you are asked to provide a safe and loving home environment including a bed, a place to study and food for three meals a day. Host families receive $200.00 per month for hosting their student. YFU students arrive with their own spending money and health insurance, and if they choose to drive, they purchase their own vehicle and auto insurance.
By hosting a YFU student, families can broaden their perspective of the world, while also sharing interests, love and culture with an exchange son or daughter. Probably the most treasured gift an exchange student can bring your family is a lasting friendship and memories that will last a lifetime.
If you or someone you know is interested in hosting Julien or Morten this coming year, or if you would like to learn more about a student and the YFU host family experience, please contact Rachael Koehler, YFU Coordinator, at 641-844-5521 or email Rachael.Koehler@iavalley.edu.
YFU is one of the world’s oldest and largest international exchange programs. Its primary purpose is to provide students from around the globe with the opportunity to pursue college level academic studies while living with a host family in a community reflecting American values. This will be the 20th year that MCC has been involved with the program.
