Iowa Latina/o Education Initiative Conference set for October 17
The Iowa Latina/o Education Initiative Conference is set for October 17, 2012 at the DMACC FFA Center in Ankeny, IA. The goal of the Latino Summit is to initiate a collective conversation that will lead to statewide strategies and promising practices.
“For the past year I have had the honor to work with other representatives in Higher Education, including Dr. Larry Ebbers and Dr. Marisa Rivera of the Community College Leadership Program, School of Education, and College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University in the planning of this very important conference,” says Joan Jaimes, Marshalltown Education Partnership Outreach Counselor. “I invite all of you to join us for this very important event.”
There will be an inaugural keynote address and discussion by Sarita E. Brown, President and Co-founder of Excelencia in Education. Topics for the conference include: financial aid, education partnerships, the transition from high school to college, community college transfer, undocumented students, and STEM.
The conference is free to attend. An online registration form is available by going online to www.cclp.hs.iastate.edu. Registration deadline is October 10. The event is sponsored by the Community College Leadership Program, School of Education, College of Human Sciences, Iowa State University, and the Iowa Community College Presidents.
