Tigers Score 2-0 Shutout
MARSHALLTOWN, IA – A goal in the 35th minute by freshmen Mach Chuol (Des Moines, IA) would prove to be the winning goal for the MCC (9-4-1, 6-3) men’s soccer team as they shut out visiting Iowa State soccer club team 2-0.
MCC would add an assurance goal in the 44th minute of play in the second half with a strike from sophomore Joao de Olivera Silva (Sao Paolo, Brazil) assisted by freshmen Philip Zeon (Brooklyn Park, MN). Tiger sophomore goalkeeper Juan Castrejon (Chicago, IL) recorded three saves in the half to keep ISU off the scoreboard.
It would prove to be a cold shooting afternoon for both clubs, but MCC would hold the edge 7-6. ISU outshot the Tigers 4-3 in the second half, but were unable to record a goal.
The Tigers will resume conference play this Saturday as they travel to Spencer, IA to take on conference rival Iowa Lakes (6-10, 3-6). MCC shutout the Lakers early this season with a 4-0 victory at home on September 19. Match time for Saturday is scheduled for 1 pm.
